Body wash HS Code description
Body wash harmonized system code
Product Overview Body wash classified under HS Code 340130 refers to liquid cleansing formulations specifically designed for dermal hygiene. These products are characterized by their aqueous-based formulations containing surfactants, emollients, fragrances, and preservatives that ensure effective skin cleansing while maintaining dermal moisture balance. Physically, body washes typically exhibit a viscous liquid or gel consistency, with pH levels generally ranging from 4.5 to 6.5 to align with skin compatibility standards. Within HS Code 340130, subcategories include antibacterial body washes, moisturizing variants, and fragrance-free hypoallergenic formulations, each tailored to meet diverse consumer and regulatory requirements. Commercially, these products find primary applications in retail distribution channels, hospitality sectors, and institutional facilities, serving the hygiene needs of end-users while complying with health and safety regulations. The product’s value proposition lies in its standardized formulation quality, compliance with dermatological safety norms, and adaptability to varied consumer preferences, positioning it competitively within both domestic and international personal care markets. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for body wash is 340130, where Chapter 34 denotes “Soap; organic surface-active products,” Heading 3401 covers “Soap; organic surface-active products and preparations for use as soap,” and Subheading 340130 specifically identifies “Organic surface-active products and preparations for washing the skin, in the form of liquid or cream and put up for retail sale.” This classification is justified by the product’s composition primarily of organic surfactants intended for topical cleansing applications. Trade considerations include typical packaging formats such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles ranging from 250 ml to 1 liter, designed for leak-proof and contamination-resistant transport. Preservation methods involve the incorporation of approved antimicrobial agents, ensuring product stability during standard shipping conditions, including temperature variations encountered in international freight. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 and relevant cosmetic regulatory frameworks such as the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and the FDA’s Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 21 for safety and labelling compliance. Documentation and classification practices adhere strictly to WTO guidelines and the Harmonized System nomenclature, facilitating streamlined customs clearance and trade compliance.
