Bottle opener HS Code description

Bottle opener harmonized system code

Product Overview The bottle opener classified under HS Code 820551 is a hand-operated tool designed specifically for removing caps from bottles, primarily those with metal crown corks. Typically fabricated from high-grade stainless steel or carbon steel alloys, these openers exhibit corrosion resistance and durability, with average dimensions ranging from 8 to 15 centimeters in length and a weight between 30 to 100 grams, depending on design variations. The manufacturing process involves precision stamping, forging, and surface finishing such as electroplating or powder coating to enhance longevity and user ergonomics. HS Code 820551 encompasses subcategories including simple lever-type openers, multi-functional variants incorporating additional tools, and specialized models engineered for industrial-scale beverage processing. Commercially, these devices are essential in foodservice establishments, retail beverage distribution, and bottling plants, facilitating efficient and safe cap removal. Their value proposition lies in reliable mechanical performance, compliance with hygiene standards, and adaptability to diverse bottle neck specifications, positioning them as indispensable components within the global beverage supply chain. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 820551 falls under Chapter 82—Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof—with Heading 8205 covering hand tools (including glaziers’ diamonds) with cutting edges or serrated, and Subheading 820551 specifically designated for bottle openers. Classification under this subheading is justified by the product’s primary function and material composition, aligning with international nomenclature standards established by the World Customs Organization (WCO). Trade compliance entails packaging in moisture-resistant materials such as sealed polyethylene bags or blister packs to prevent corrosion during transit, often consolidated in standardized cartons conforming to ISO pallet dimensions for optimized freight handling. Quality standards mandate adherence to ISO 8442-5 for cutlery and related tools, ensuring mechanical integrity and safety. Additionally, these products must meet WTO-sanctioned customs documentation requirements, including precise tariff codes and harmonized descriptions, facilitating efficient customs clearance and minimizing trade disputes. Overall, the classification and trade specifications ensure uniformity in global commerce, supporting accurate tariff application and regulatory compliance.
