Bumper HS Code description
Bumper harmonized system code
Product Overview The bumper classified under HS Code 870810 refers specifically to automotive bumpers and parts thereof, designed primarily for motor vehicles. These components serve as protective assemblies affixed to the front or rear of vehicles, engineered to absorb impact and minimize damage during collisions. Typically fabricated from materials such as reinforced plastic composites, steel, or aluminum alloys, bumpers under this classification exhibit defined physical characteristics including standardized dimensions, tensile strength thresholds, and corrosion resistance levels appropriate for automotive safety compliance. The HS Code 870810 encompasses subcategories differentiating bumpers by material composition and vehicle compatibility, such as plastic bumpers (87081010) and metal bumpers (87081090). Commercially, these bumpers are integral to automotive manufacturing, aftermarket replacement, and repair sectors, facilitating vehicle safety, structural integrity, and aesthetic restoration. Their market positioning is underscored by adherence to international safety regulations and compatibility with various vehicle models, thereby offering importers and exporters a standardized product with consistent quality and regulatory compliance suitable for global trade. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 870810 is structured as follows: Chapter 87 (Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock), Heading 8708 (Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles), and Subheading 870810 (Bumpers and parts thereof). This classification is predicated on the product’s function as an automotive safety component distinct from other vehicle parts, substantiated by its design and material properties. Trade considerations for bumpers include packaging in reinforced crates or pallets with protective wrapping to prevent mechanical damage and corrosion during transit. Preservation methods often involve anti-corrosive coatings and humidity-controlled environments to maintain product integrity. Shipping complies with international transport standards, including IMDG for hazardous material classification if applicable to coatings or treatments used. Quality standards align with ISO/TS 16949 automotive requirements and UNECE regulations governing impact resistance and durability. Documentation supporting customs clearance typically requires precise product descriptions, material certificates, and compliance declarations, ensuring adherence to WTO rules and facilitating efficient customs processing within international trade frameworks.
Bumper Chapter Note
1.- This Chapter does not cover railway or tramway rolling-stock designed solely for running on rails. 2.- For the purposes of this Chapter, “tractors” means vehicles constructed essentially for hauling or pushing another vehicle, appliance or load, whether or not they contain subsidiary provision for the transport, in connection with the main use of the tractor, of tools, seeds, fertilisers or other goods. Machines and working tools designed for fitting to tractors of heading 87.01 as interchangeable equipment remain classified in their respective headings even if presented with the tractor, and whether or not mounted on it. 3.- Motor chassis fitted with cabs fall in headings 87.02 to 87.04, and not in heading 87.06. 4.- Heading 87.12 includes all children's bicycles. Other children's cycles fall in heading 95.03.
