Canvas painting HS Code description

Canvas painting harmonized system code

Product Overview Canvas Painting, classified under HS Code 9701, is a piece of art typically created using oil, acrylic, or mixed media paints on a primed or unprimed canvas substrate. The canvas, typically made from cotton or linen, is stretched across a wooden frame, known as a stretcher, and may be coated with gesso before it is used to prevent oil paint from coming into direct contact with the canvas fibers. Canvas Paintings under HS Code 9701 can be categorized into original paintings, collages and similar decorative plaques, and paintings and drawings executed entirely by hand. These products are highly sought after in the retail, hospitality, and interior design industries for decorative purposes, contributing to the ambiance and aesthetics of a space. The value proposition of Canvas Paintings lies in their uniqueness, aesthetic appeal, and the ability to transform and elevate any space they're placed in. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications Canvas Painting falls under the full 6-digit HS Code 9701.10, which can be broken down hierarchically as follows: Chapter 97 (Works of Art, Collectors' Pieces and Antiques), Heading 01 (Paintings, Drawings, and Pastels), and Subheading 10 (Executed entirely by hand). This specific classification is due to the manual craftsmanship involved in the creation of each piece, distinguishing it from prints or reproductions. For trading purposes, Canvas Paintings are typically packaged with protective layers and sturdy, custom-fit boxes to prevent damage during transit. They are often shipped with a certificate of authenticity, indicating the artist's name, the artwork's title, year of creation, and medium. In terms of quality standards, the artwork should adhere to the professional standards set by the artist and the international art community, including the use of high-quality materials, the craftsmanship involved, and the artwork's aesthetic value.
