Canvas print HS Code description
Canvas print harmonized system code
Product Overview Canvas prints classified under HS Code 491191 refer to printed or illustrated canvases primarily used for decorative, promotional, or functional display purposes. These products consist of high-grade textile canvas substrates, typically made from cotton or polyester fibers, onto which images or designs are transferred using advanced printing techniques such as inkjet or screen printing. Physical specifications generally include dimensions ranging from small format (e.g., 20x30 cm) to large-scale prints exceeding 1 meter in width, with canvas weights varying between 250 to 400 grams per square meter to ensure durability and color fidelity. The processing involves pre-treatment of the fabric for ink adhesion, followed by curing or drying to achieve long-lasting print quality. Within HS Code 491191, subcategories encompass printed canvases with or without frames, single or multiple panel configurations, and variations based on coating or finishing (matte, gloss, or UV-protective layers). Commercially, these canvas prints serve diverse applications including interior decoration in hospitality and retail sectors, promotional displays in trade shows, and graphic arts in packaging or product presentation. Their value proposition lies in combining aesthetic appeal with material robustness, offering a versatile medium that supports branding and visual communication while meeting industry standards for quality and longevity. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 491191 falls under Chapter 49, which covers printed books, newspapers, pictures, and other products of the printing industry. Specifically, Heading 4911 pertains to “Other printed matter, including printed pictures and photographs,” with Subheading 491191 designating printed canvases excluding those classified elsewhere. The classification rationale is based on the product’s nature as a printed textile substrate rather than a book or photographic print on paper, aligning with WTO Harmonized System nomenclature. Trade considerations for canvas prints under this code include standard packaging protocols such as protective wrapping with acid-free paper and reinforced cardboard tubes or flat cartons to prevent damage during transit. Preservation methods emphasize moisture control and UV protection to maintain print integrity, with shipping typically requiring handling as fragile cargo to avoid tears or color degradation. Quality standards conform to ISO 9706 for permanence of paper and textiles, alongside industry-specific certifications for colorfastness (e.g., AATCC TM16) and environmental compliance (REACH, RoHS). Accurate documentation supporting customs clearance mandates detailed product descriptions, including fabric composition, print method, dimensions, and finish type, ensuring alignment with international trade classification systems and facilitating streamlined cross-border movement.
