Canvas tote bag HS Code description

Canvas tote bag harmonized system code

Product Overview The canvas tote bag classified under HS Code 420292 is a durable, reusable carrying accessory primarily constructed from woven cotton or blended canvas fabric. Designed with reinforced handles and a spacious interior, these bags typically measure between 30 to 45 cm in width and 35 to 50 cm in height, with a weight range of 150 to 300 grams per square meter (GSM) fabric density, ensuring robustness and longevity. The manufacturing process involves industrial weaving, cutting, and stitching, often supplemented with treatments such as water-resistant coatings or surface printing for branding purposes. Under HS Code 420292, the product falls within the category of bags made of textile materials, specifically those not designed for specialized storage or transport. Subcategories include tote bags with or without additional compartments, varying closure types (zipper, snap, open top), and differing handle constructions (single or double handles, reinforced or plain). Commercially, these canvas tote bags are widely utilized in retail environments, promotional events, food service industries (for takeout and grocery delivery), and light processing sectors due to their eco-friendly profile and reusability. Their market positioning emphasizes cost-effectiveness, environmental compliance, and compliance with international material safety standards, providing a competitive edge in global trade markets. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 420292 is structured as follows: Chapter 42 (Articles of leather; saddlery and harness; travel goods, handbags and similar containers), Heading 4202 (Trunks, suitcases, vanity-cases, attache-cases, briefcases, school satchels and similar containers), Subheading 420292 (Other bags made of textile materials). This classification is justified by the product’s material composition (textile canvas) and its functional design as a carrying container distinct from leather or plastic variants. In compliance with WTO Harmonized System protocols, these bags are documented under this subheading to facilitate uniform tariff application and customs clearance. Trade considerations include packaging in bulk lots or retail-ready cartons, with preservation methods focusing on moisture control and pest prevention during transit. Shipping requirements typically mandate flat stacking to maintain shape integrity and minimize damage. Quality standards adhered to include ISO 9001 for manufacturing and OEKO-TEX certification where applicable, ensuring fabric safety and durability. The product must meet dimensional tolerances within ±5% and fabric strength criteria exceeding 350 N in tensile testing to comply with international trade regulations and customs inspection protocols. This structured classification and detailed specification support accurate customs declarations and seamless international logistics operations.
