Ceramic tube HS Code description
Ceramic tube harmonized system code
Product Overview Ceramic tubes classified under HS Code 690600 refer to tubular ceramic products primarily composed of inorganic non-metallic materials, fired at high temperatures to achieve desired mechanical strength and thermal resistance. These tubes typically exhibit precise dimensional tolerances, with diameters ranging from a few millimeters up to several centimeters and wall thicknesses engineered for specific applications. Manufactured through processes such as extrusion, slip casting, or isostatic pressing followed by high-temperature sintering, these tubes offer high structural integrity, chemical inertness, and resistance to thermal shock. HS Code 690600 encompasses ceramic tubes and pipes that are glazed or unglazed, including subcategories differentiated by material composition and surface finish. Commercially, these ceramic tubes are widely utilized in food processing equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing lines, and retail food service installations, where hygienic, corrosion-resistant, and heat-insulating properties are essential. Their competitive advantage lies in their durability under extreme conditions, non-reactivity with consumables, and compliance with food-grade material standards, positioning them as critical components within industrial supply chains focused on safety and longevity. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 690600 breaks down as follows: Chapter 69 (Ceramic products), Heading 6906 (Ceramic tubes, pipes, and hoses, and fittings thereof), with subheadings specifying material composition and glaze status. This classification is justified by the product’s ceramic composition, tubular geometry, and intended industrial function, aligning with the World Customs Organization’s Harmonized System nomenclature. In international trade, ceramic tubes under this code are typically packaged in sturdy, moisture-resistant cartons or wooden crates, often accompanied by protective padding to prevent mechanical damage during transit. Preservation methods emphasize controlling humidity and preventing contamination, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards and relevant food safety certifications such as FDA or EU food contact regulations when applicable. Shipping modalities favor containerized freight with clear labeling for hazard-free handling. Documentation requirements include detailed product descriptions, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and conformity certificates to facilitate customs clearance and adherence to WTO trade facilitation agreements. This structured classification and trade specification framework support efficient import/export operations and regulatory compliance across global markets.
Ceramic tube Chapter Note
1.- This Chapter applies only to ceramic products which have been fired after shaping : (a) Headings 69.04 to 69.14 apply only to such products other than those classifiable in headings 69.01 to 69.03; (b) Articles heated to temperatures less than 800 °C for purposes such as curing of resins, accelerating hydration reactions, or for the removal of water or other volatile components, are not considered to be fired. Such articles are excluded from Chapter 69; and (c) Ceramic articles are obtained by firing inorganic, non-metallic materials which have been prepared and shaped previously at, in general, room temperature. Raw materials comprise, inter alia, clays, siliceous materials including fused silica, materials with a high melting point, such as oxides, carbides, nitrides, graphite or other carbon, and in some cases binders such as refractory clays or phosphates. 2.- This Chapter does not cover : (a) Products of heading 28.44; (b) Articles of heading 68.04; (c) Articles of Chapter 71 (for example, imitation jewellery); (d) Cermets of heading 81.13; (e) Articles of Chapter 82; (f) Electrical insulators (heading 85.46) or fittings of insulating material of heading 85.47; (g) Artificial teeth (heading 90.21); (h) Articles of Chapter 91 (for example, clocks and clock cases); (ij) Articles of Chapter 94 (for example, furniture, luminaires and lighting fittings, prefabricated buildings); (k) Articles of Chapter 95 (for example, toys, games and sports requisites); (l) Articles of heading 96.06 (for example, buttons) or of heading 96.14 (for example, smoking pipes); or (m) Articles of Chapter 97 (for example, works of art).
