Chisel HS Code description
Chisel harmonized system code
Product Overview Chisels classified under HS Code 820530 are precision hand tools characterized by a hardened steel blade with a beveled cutting edge, designed for carving or cutting hard materials. These tools typically feature blades measuring from 15mm to 100mm in width and lengths varying between 100mm and 300mm, with handles made from wood, plastic, or composite materials to ensure ergonomic grip and durability. Manufactured through heat treatment and surface finishing processes, chisels under this classification exhibit high hardness (typically HRC 55-62) and wear resistance, meeting stringent quality parameters for industrial-grade performance. The HS Code 820530 specifically encompasses chisels excluding those with saw blades or cutting edges with serrations, differentiating them from related cutting tools. These chisels find extensive application in construction, woodworking, metal fabrication, and food processing industries, where precise material removal or shaping is required. Their design and material composition position them competitively in international markets, offering reliability and compliance with industrial tool standards, thereby facilitating their adoption in professional and commercial operations globally. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 820530 falls under Chapter 82 (Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal), Heading 8205 (Hand tools, including glaziers' diamonds), with the subheading 30 specifying chisels. This classification is based on the tool’s primary function as a cutting or carving implement with a non-powered, manually operated hardened blade. Trade documentation must reflect this precise 6-digit code to ensure accurate customs clearance and tariff application. Standard packaging for export includes protective sheathes or sleeves, bundled in cartons with moisture-resistant liners to prevent corrosion during transit. Preservation methods often involve anti-rust coatings or oiling, complying with international shipping standards to maintain tool integrity. Quality standards align with ISO 6789 and relevant ASTM specifications, emphasizing dimensional accuracy, blade hardness, and handle strength. Adherence to WTO guidelines and harmonized system nomenclature ensures smooth import/export operations, minimizing classification disputes and facilitating compliance for customs brokers and trade compliance officers managing cross-border transactions involving these hand tools.
