Clamp - toggle clamp HS Code description

Clamp - toggle clamp harmonized system code

Product Overview Clamp - Toggle Clamp, classified under HS Code 820570, refers to a mechanical fastening device designed to securely hold objects in place through a pivoting lever mechanism. Typically constructed from high-grade carbon steel or stainless steel, these clamps feature robust components such as a fixed base plate, adjustable clamping arm, and an ergonomic handle for rapid engagement and release. Physical dimensions vary according to application-specific models but commonly range from compact sizes suitable for precision assembly to larger configurations for heavy-duty industrial use. Processing levels include surface treatments like galvanization or powder coating to enhance corrosion resistance and durability. Under HS Code 820570, toggle clamps fall within the broader category of hand tools, specifically those employing a clamping function. Subcategories differentiate by mechanism type and intended use, including vertical toggle clamps, horizontal toggle clamps, and push-pull clamps. Commercially, these clamps are extensively utilized in manufacturing assembly lines, woodworking, metal fabrication, and food processing sectors to ensure secure fixture and operational efficiency. Their value proposition lies in delivering reliable, repeatable clamping force, ease of operation, and compliance with industrial safety standards, positioning them as essential components in both automated and manual production environments. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 820570 is structured hierarchically as follows: Chapter 82 – Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof; Heading 8205 – Hand tools (including glaziers’ diamonds), pneumatic, hydraulic or with self-contained electric or non-electric motor; and Subheading 820570 – Other hand tools, including clamps and vices, excluding those powered. The classification rationale for toggle clamps under this code is based on their function as manually operated clamping tools designed for mechanical fixation rather than cutting or driving. For international trade, packaging typically involves corrosion-resistant materials such as sealed plastic bags or blister packs within sturdy cartons to prevent damage during transit. Preservation methods focus on maintaining surface integrity, often employing rust-inhibiting oils or desiccants. Shipping requirements adhere to standard containerized freight protocols, with special attention to weight distribution due to the metal content. Compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards and conformity to international mechanical safety norms (e.g., EN 13155) is common. Documentation must explicitly specify product dimensions, material composition, and surface treatment to facilitate customs clearance and ensure alignment with WTO agreements and Harmonized System nomenclature. This precise classification and detailed trade information streamline customs processing and support effective supply chain management for global import/export operations.
