Cleaning wipes HS Code description

Cleaning wipes harmonized system code

Product Overview Cleaning wipes categorized under HS Code 340119 are pre-moistened disposable sheets primarily composed of non-woven fabrics impregnated with cleaning agents. These wipes are engineered for surface sanitation, featuring specifications such as uniform sheet dimensions typically ranging from 15 cm x 20 cm to 20 cm x 30 cm, and controlled moisture content between 40-60% by weight to ensure optimal cleaning efficacy without residue. Manufactured through advanced lamination and impregnation processes, they exhibit consistent tensile strength, absorbency, and bactericidal properties when applicable. The HS Code 340119 encompasses subcategories including disinfectant wipes, general-purpose cleaning wipes, and specialty wipes designed for industrial or food-contact surfaces. Commercially, these products are extensively utilized across food service operations, retail environments, and industrial processing sectors for rapid removal of contaminants, grease, and microbial agents, thereby supporting hygiene compliance and operational efficiency. Positioned competitively within the market, they offer trade advantages such as extended shelf life, ease of use in multi-unit packaging, and compliance with regulatory standards for sanitation products. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full HS Code for these cleaning wipes is 340119, where Chapter 34 covers “Soap, Organic Surface-Active Agents, Washing Preparations, Lubricating Preparations, Artificial Waxes, Prepared Waxes, Polishing or Scouring Preparations, Candles and Similar Articles, Modelling Pastes, “ and Heading 3401 pertains to “Soap; organic surface-active products and preparations for use as soap, in the form of bars, cakes, moulded pieces or shapes, whether or not containing soap.” Subheading 340119 specifically designates “Organic surface-active products and preparations for washing the skin, in the form of liquid or cream and other than those of heading 3401.11.” This classification is justified by the product’s composition as organic surface-active agents in a pre-moistened wipe format designed for external cleaning applications. Trade considerations include packaging in multi-count sealed pouches or canisters to maintain moisture integrity and prevent microbial contamination, employing preservation methods such as the addition of stabilizers and antimicrobial agents. Shipping typically adheres to ambient temperature logistics with protective packaging to avoid physical deformation. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 manufacturing protocols and comply with WTO agreements on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, ensuring harmonized customs documentation and facilitating smooth cross-border trade operations.
