Coffee powder HS Code description

Coffee powder harmonized system code

Product Overview Coffee Powder, categorized under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 0901, is a granulated substance derived from coffee beans. The coffee beans undergo several procedures such as harvesting, drying, roasting, grinding, and packaging to transform into a fine or coarse powder. This powder varies in quality attributes based on bean type, roast level, grind size, and processing method. HS Code 0901 includes several subcategories such as coffee, not roasted or decaffeinated; coffee husks and skins; and coffee substitutes containing coffee, among others. Coffee Powder serves as a staple component in numerous segments, including food service establishments, retail outlets, and food processing industries. Its value proposition lies in its rich taste, aroma, and stimulating effects, which provide a competitive edge in the global market. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications Coffee Powder is classified under the full 6-digit HS Code 0901.21, which breaks down hierarchically into Chapter 09 (Coffee, Tea, Mate and Spices), Heading 0901 (Coffee, whether or not roasted or decaffeinated; coffee husks and skins; coffee substitutes containing coffee), and Subheading 0901.21 (Coffee, roasted, not decaffeinated). This product is classified under this specific code due to its processing level (roasted) and caffeine status (not decaffeinated). In terms of trade considerations, Coffee Powder is often packed in airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags to preserve freshness and aroma during transport. Shipping requirements typically involve storage in dry, cool conditions to prevent moisture absorption and quality degradation. The product should meet internationally recognized quality standards, including those set by the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and local food safety authorities. This classification and trade information ensures compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations and facilitates smooth customs processing.
