Copper ingot HS Code description

Copper ingot harmonized system code

Product Overview Copper Ingot under HS Code 7403 refers to refined copper in a solid, rectangular form, typically used as a raw material in various industrial applications. These ingots are the result of a process that includes smelting and/or refining, where copper ore is heated and treated to remove impurities and achieve a high level of purity, typically over 99.9%. There are several subcategories within HS Code 7403, depending on the copper content and form. For instance, 74030011 represents refined copper ingots, while 74030021 covers copper billets. Commercial applications of Copper Ingots are widespread, spanning across sectors from electronics to plumbing. They are a key component in the manufacture of copper wire, copper plates, and other copper products. Copper's high electrical and thermal conductivity, along with its resistance to corrosion, makes it an essential resource in industries such as construction, power generation, and telecommunications. In terms of market positioning, copper ingots offer a versatile, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for businesses, making them a preferred choice in many commercial and industrial applications. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for Copper Ingot, 740300, is organized hierarchically: Chapter 74 (Copper and Articles Thereof), Heading 03 (Refined Copper and Copper Alloys, Unwrought). The classification of Copper Ingot under this specific code is due to its high level of purity and the fact that it is unwrought, or not worked after pouring and casting. In terms of trade considerations, copper ingots are often packaged on pallets for easy handling, preservation, and transportation. Standard shipping requirements apply, with the product properly secured and protected to avoid damage during transit. Quality standards for Copper Ingot under code 7403 are high, given that the product is often used in critical applications where purity is paramount. The product must meet strict criteria regarding physical properties, chemical composition, and dimensional tolerances. These standards and specifications are in line with WTO and customs documentation requirements, ensuring smooth international trade operations.

Copper ingot Chapter Note

1.- In this Chapter the following expressions have the meanings hereby assigned to them : (a) Refined copper Metal containing at least 99.85 % by weight of copper; or Metal containing at least 97.5 % by weight of copper, provided that the content by weight of any other element does not exceed the limit specified in the following table : (b) Copper alloys Metallic substances other than unrefined copper in which copper predominates by weight over each of the other elements, provided that : (i) the content by weight of at least one of the other elements is greater than the limit specified in the foregoing table; or (ii) the total content by weight of such other elements exceeds 2.5 %. (c) Master alloys Alloys containing with other elements more than 10 % by weight of copper, not usefully malleable and commonly used as an additive in the manufacture of other alloys or as de-oxidants, desulphurising agents or for similar uses in the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals. However, copper phosphide (phosphor copper) containing more than 15 % by weight of phosphorus falls in heading 28.53.
