Copper plate & strip HS Code description

Copper plate & strip harmonized system code

Product Overview The Copper Plate & Strip (HS Code 7409) is a high-quality, non-ferrous metal product best known for its excellent thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and malleability. These products are typically procured in various thicknesses and widths, and are often delivered in a rolled or flat form, depending on the specific requirements of the buyer. HS Code 7409 is further divided into several subcategories, including refined copper plates, sheets, and strips, as well as copper-zinc base alloys (brass) and copper-nickel base alloys or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver). The diverse range of commercial applications for these products spans various sectors, including foodservice for use in kitchenware and utensils, retail for decorative items, and various manufacturing processes that require the use of conductive and corrosion-resistant materials. The key value proposition for Copper Plate & Strip under HS Code 7409 is its versatility and superior quality, which provides a competitive advantage in international trade. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The complete HS Code for Copper Plate & Strip is 7409, which is classified under the broader Chapter 74 (Copper and articles thereof). The 7409 classification specifically covers Copper plates, sheets, and strip, of a thickness exceeding 0.15 mm. The rationale for this classification lies in the physical properties and commercial applications of the product, which align with the stipulations for copper materials under Chapter 74 of the HS Code. In terms of trade considerations, Copper Plate & Strip is often packaged in wooden crates or pallets to ensure protection during transit. The product is preserved through anti-tarnishing treatments and stored in dry conditions to prevent oxidation. The quality standards for these products are typically set by international certifying bodies, such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is important that all international trade activities involving Copper Plate & Strip under HS Code 7409 comply with the World Trade Organization's (WTO) regulations and customs documentation standards to ensure smooth transactions and delivery.

Copper plate & strip Chapter Note

1.- In this Chapter the following expressions have the meanings hereby assigned to them : (a) Refined copper Metal containing at least 99.85 % by weight of copper; or Metal containing at least 97.5 % by weight of copper, provided that the content by weight of any other element does not exceed the limit specified in the following table : (b) Copper alloys Metallic substances other than unrefined copper in which copper predominates by weight over each of the other elements, provided that : (i) the content by weight of at least one of the other elements is greater than the limit specified in the foregoing table; or (ii) the total content by weight of such other elements exceeds 2.5 %. (c) Master alloys Alloys containing with other elements more than 10 % by weight of copper, not usefully malleable and commonly used as an additive in the manufacture of other alloys or as de-oxidants, desulphurising agents or for similar uses in the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals. However, copper phosphide (phosphor copper) containing more than 15 % by weight of phosphorus falls in heading 28.53.
