Copper tape & foil HS Code description

Copper tape & foil harmonized system code

Product Overview Copper Tape & Foil, classified under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 7410, encompasses copper and copper alloy products manufactured in thin strips or sheets. These products are characterized by their high electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and malleability. They typically range in thickness from 0.15mm to 3mm and width from 2mm to 400mm, depending on the specific requirements of the application. Within HS Code 7410, Copper Tape & Foil can be further classified based on the copper content, alloy type, and form factor. Commercial applications of Copper Tape & Foil are diverse, spanning sectors such as electronics, construction, craftwork, and telecommunications for tasks such as electromagnetic shielding, heat conduction, and decorative applications. The value proposition of Copper Tape & Foil lies in its superior conductivity and durability, coupled with its versatility across a range of industrial applications. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 7410 falls under Chapter 74, which broadly pertains to copper and articles thereof. Within this, Heading 10 specifically classifies foil (whether or not printed or backed with paper, paperboard, plastics or similar backing materials) of copper, not exceeding 0.15mm thick (excluding backing). The classification rationale stems from the product's form factor and composition, aligning with the World Customs Organization's guidelines for trade classification. In terms of trade considerations, Copper Tape & Foil is commonly packaged in rolls or sheets, carefully preserved to prevent damage or oxidation during transit. Shipping requirements typically involve safeguarding against moisture and mechanical damage. Quality standards for Copper Tape & Foil often adhere to ASTM B152 standards, which specify the required product attributes such as thickness, weight, tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. These precise technical specifications ensure that the product meets the rigorous demands of various industrial applications while adhering to international trade classification systems and customs documentation standards.

Copper tape & foil Chapter Note

1.- In this Chapter the following expressions have the meanings hereby assigned to them : (a) Refined copper Metal containing at least 99.85 % by weight of copper; or Metal containing at least 97.5 % by weight of copper, provided that the content by weight of any other element does not exceed the limit specified in the following table : (b) Copper alloys Metallic substances other than unrefined copper in which copper predominates by weight over each of the other elements, provided that : (i) the content by weight of at least one of the other elements is greater than the limit specified in the foregoing table; or (ii) the total content by weight of such other elements exceeds 2.5 %. (c) Master alloys Alloys containing with other elements more than 10 % by weight of copper, not usefully malleable and commonly used as an additive in the manufacture of other alloys or as de-oxidants, desulphurising agents or for similar uses in the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals. However, copper phosphide (phosphor copper) containing more than 15 % by weight of phosphorus falls in heading 28.53.
