Cotton fabric swatch HS Code description
Cotton fabric swatch harmonized system code
Product Overview Cotton fabric swatches classified under HS Code 630790 refer to pre-cut samples of woven or knitted textile materials predominantly composed of cotton fibers. These swatches serve as representative fabric segments used for quality assessment, design verification, and material selection in international trade and manufacturing processes. Typically, the fabric exhibits standardized physical specifications including thread count ranging from 120 to 200 threads per inch, fabric weight between 100 to 180 grams per square meter (gsm), and finishing treatments such as bleaching, mercerizing, or dyeing to enhance texture and durability. HS Code 630790 encompasses a broad category of made-up textile articles excluding those specifically detailed in preceding headings, including but not limited to fabric swatches, textile labels, and other small textile pieces. Commercially, cotton fabric swatches are essential in sectors such as apparel manufacturing, interior textiles, and retail merchandising, facilitating product sampling and quality control. Their market positioning is defined by compliance with international textile standards, consistent quality, and adaptability for downstream processing, establishing them as critical components in global supply chains and textile trade operations. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The cotton fabric swatch is classified under HS Code 630790, where "63" designates Chapter 63 covering “Made-Up Textile Articles; Sets; Worn Clothing and Worn Textile Articles,” "07" specifies Heading 6307 for “Other made up articles, including dress patterns,” and "90" identifies the Subheading for miscellaneous made-up textile articles not elsewhere specified. This classification is justified by the product’s nature as a fabricated textile sample distinct from finished garments or household textile articles, aligning with World Customs Organization (WCO) guidelines on textile categorization. Trade considerations for cotton fabric swatches include packaging in protective, moisture-resistant materials such as polyethylene sleeves or rigid cartons to prevent contamination and physical damage during transit. Preservation methods involve maintaining controlled humidity and temperature conditions to safeguard fabric integrity and colorfastness. Shipping requirements comply with International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code where applicable, though generally non-hazardous. Quality standards conform to internationally recognized benchmarks such as ISO 105 for colorfastness and ISO 139 for fabric tensile strength, ensuring conformity with WTO trade facilitation measures and customs documentation protocols. This detailed classification and adherence to trade specifications streamline customs clearance and support accurate tariff application in import/export operations.
