Crates - wooden boxes & crates HS Code description
Crates - wooden boxes & crates harmonized system code
Product Overview Wooden Boxes and Crates classified under HS Code 441510 comprise rigid containers constructed primarily from seasoned timber, designed for the packaging, storage, and transportation of goods across various sectors. These crates are manufactured through precision woodworking processes including cutting, assembling, nailing, and finishing, ensuring structural integrity and durability. Typical physical specifications include variable dimensions tailored to cargo size, with thicknesses ranging from 8 mm to 25 mm for side panels and reinforced corner joints to withstand loading stresses. The product range under 441510 encompasses subcategories such as nailed wooden boxes, slatted crates, and solid wooden cases, each designed to meet specific load-bearing and ventilation requirements. Commercially, these crates are extensively utilized in food service for fresh produce and meat transport, in retail for bulk packaging, and within processing industries for secure handling of components and machinery. Their value proposition lies in offering cost-effective, reusable containment solutions that comply with phytosanitary regulations, contributing to reduced damage rates and optimized logistics in international supply chains. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 441510 falls within Chapter 44 (Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal), specifically under Heading 4415, which covers “Packing cases, boxes, crates and similar articles, of wood.” The six-digit structure is: 44 (Chapter) – 15 (Heading) – 10 (Subheading), precisely identifying wooden crates used for packing purposes. This classification is assigned based on the product’s primary material composition (wood), construction method (nailed or assembled), and intended commercial function (packaging and transport). Trade considerations include adherence to International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) to prevent pest transmission, which mandates heat treatment or fumigation of wooden packaging. Standard packaging configurations often incorporate slatted designs to facilitate air circulation for perishables, while preservation methods focus on moisture resistance and structural stability under variable climatic conditions. Shipping requirements emphasize compliance with load distribution standards and dimensional tolerances to optimize container space. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 manufacturing controls and ISO 6780 for pallet and crate dimensions, ensuring conformity with WTO trade facilitation guidelines and customs documentation accuracy.
