Cumin HS Code description

Cumin harmonized system code

Product Overview Cumin, classified under HS Code 0909, is a highly aromatic spice widely used in global culinary applications. Predominantly derived from the dried seeds of the Cuminum cyminum plant, Cumin's key characteristics include a strong, distinctive flavor and a warm, earthy aroma. The product can be found in two primary forms: whole seeds and ground powder, each having its distinct applications in gastronomy. Cumin's subcategories under HS Code 0909 include seeds (HS Code 0909.31) and crushed or ground (HS Code 0909.32), providing a detailed classification for trade purposes. In the commercial sector, Cumin is extensively used in food service establishments, retail spice selling, and food processing industries for adding flavor to various dishes. Its market positioning is built around its unique taste profile, its indispensable role in many traditional spice blends, and its competitive advantages include its long shelf life and multipurpose culinary applications. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications Cumin falls under the HS Code 0909, which is structured hierarchically as Chapter 09 (Coffee, Tea, Maté and Spices), Heading 09.09 (Seeds of anise, badian, fennel, coriander, cumin or caraway; juniper berries), and finally the Subheading 0909.31 or 0909.32, specifying whether the Cumin is in seed form or crushed/ground. This classification is based on the product's nature, use, and form. Trade considerations for Cumin include packaging in moisture-proof containers to retain its aroma and protect against contamination. Its preservation typically involves storage in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The shipping of Cumin adheres to regulations ensuring the product's quality and safety during transit. Quality standards for Cumin include a consistent flavor profile, minimal moisture content, and absence of foreign materials. These standards align with WTO guidelines and customs documentation, ensuring seamless international trade procedures.
