Adult diapers HS Code description

Adult diapers harmonized system code

Product Overview Adult diapers classified under HS Code 961900 are absorbent hygiene products specifically designed for adult use to manage urinary and fecal incontinence. These products typically consist of multi-layered construction, including a top sheet made of non-woven fabric for skin comfort, an absorbent core composed of superabsorbent polymers (SAP) and fluff pulp for high fluid retention capacity, and a waterproof backing layer to prevent leakage. The processing involves advanced bonding and sealing technologies to ensure durability, breathability, and hypoallergenic properties. Within HS Code 961900, adult diapers are categorized alongside other hygiene articles such as sanitary towels and tampons, with subcategories differentiating products based on material composition and intended user demographics. The primary commercial applications span healthcare facilities, retail outlets, and distribution to food service sectors requiring hygiene maintenance. Market positioning emphasizes compliance with stringent quality controls, cost-efficiency, and adaptability to diverse international regulatory standards, thereby catering to institutional buyers and distributors engaged in global import/export operations. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 961900 falls under Chapter 96 (Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles), Heading 9619 (Sanitary towels, tampons, diapers, and similar sanitary articles), with Subheading 961900 specifically assigned to adult diapers and related hygiene products. This classification is based on the product’s function as a disposable hygiene article for adults, distinct from infant diapers or other sanitary products. Trade considerations include packaging in moisture-resistant, sealed polyethylene bags or cartons designed to maintain product integrity during transit. Preservation methods focus on maintaining low humidity and temperature-controlled environments to prevent degradation of absorbent materials. Shipping typically adheres to palletized configurations complying with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards for containerized freight. Quality standards conform to ISO 9001 and EN 13726 specifications, ensuring product safety, absorbency performance (measured in grams of fluid absorbed), and skin compatibility. Documentation for customs clearance must accurately reflect these classifications and comply with World Trade Organization (WTO) tariff schedules and non-tariff measure requirements to facilitate smooth cross-border transactions.
