Drain cleaner HS Code description
Drain cleaner harmonized system code
Product Overview Drain cleaner classified under HS Code 340250 refers to chemical formulations specifically designed for the removal of blockages and buildup in drainage systems. These products typically comprise caustic or enzymatic agents capable of dissolving organic matter such as grease, hair, and food residues. Physically, drain cleaners are available in liquid, gel, or granulated forms, with concentration levels calibrated to achieve optimal efficacy while adhering to safety and environmental regulations. Under HS Code 340250, drain cleaners fall within a broader category of surface-active preparations used for cleaning purposes, which includes subcategories differentiated by chemical composition and intended application. Commercially, these products are indispensable in food service establishments, retail outlets, and processing industries where maintaining unclogged and hygienic drainage systems is critical to operational efficiency and compliance with health standards. Their value proposition lies in providing a rapid, reliable cleaning solution that minimizes downtime and reduces maintenance costs, positioning them as essential consumables in industrial and commercial sanitation protocols. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full HS Code for drain cleaners is 340250, situated within Chapter 34: “Soap, Organic Surface-Active Agents, Washing Preparations,” specifically under Heading 3402, which covers “Organic surface-active agents (other than soap); surface-active preparations, washing preparations.” The subheading 50 precisely designates “Preparations put up for retail sale as detergents, including drain cleaners.” This classification is justified by the product’s chemical nature as a surface-active agent formulated for cleaning and unclogging drains. Trade considerations include packaging formats such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles or sealed pouches designed to prevent leakage and contamination, with common net weights ranging from 500 ml to 5 liters. Preservation methods involve stabilizers to maintain chemical potency during transit and storage, ensuring compliance with international safety standards. Shipping requirements mandate clear labeling, hazard communication in accordance with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and adherence to temperature controls where applicable. The product conforms to quality benchmarks outlined by ISO 9001 and relevant environmental regulations, facilitating smooth customs clearance and regulatory compliance in global trade operations.
