Educational books HS Code description
Educational books harmonized system code
Product Overview Educational Books, falling under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 4901, are printed materials primarily intended for instructing or providing knowledge. These could range from textbooks, workbooks, or reference books used in various educational settings, including schools, colleges, or professional training institutions. The fundamental characteristics of the educational books include a bound and printed format, typically made from high-quality, durable paper to withstand frequent use. They may encompass various subjects, from science, mathematics, and humanities to vocational and technical subjects. Educational books under HS Code 4901 may further be divided into subcategories such as children's picture books (4901.10), dictionaries and encyclopedias (4901.91), and other printed books (4901.99). Commercially, these books are imperative for the education sector, libraries, and bookstores and are also relevant for individual purchase. The value proposition of educational books lies in their ability to provide structured, comprehensive information, serving as a critical tool for learning and knowledge enhancement. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications Educational Books are classified under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 4901, where '49' represents the chapter for printed books, newspapers, and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts, and plans. The '01' signifies the heading for printed books, brochures, leaflets, and similar printed matter, whether or not in single sheets. The classification rationale is based on the primary function of the product, which is to provide educational content in a printed, bound format. When it comes to trade considerations, educational books are usually packaged in sturdy, corrugated boxes to prevent damage during transit. They are preserved in a dry environment to avoid moisture-related damage, and specific shipping requirements may be in place to ensure the books' physical integrity during transit. The quality of these books is typically assessed based on the quality of paper, binding, print, and the accuracy of information contained. As per WTO and customs documentation standards, the description and classification of these books must be accurate and consistent with the international trade classification systems.
