Electric bike parts HS Code description
Electric bike parts harmonized system code
Product Overview Electric bike parts classified under HS Code 871499 encompass a diverse range of components specifically engineered for use in electric bicycles, excluding complete vehicles. These parts include, but are not limited to, electric motors, battery packs, controllers, wiring harnesses, throttle controls, and specialized drivetrain elements designed to integrate with pedal-assist systems. Physically, these components vary in size and weight, typically composed of high-grade metals, plastics, and electronic materials processed through precision manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, injection molding, and surface treatment for corrosion resistance. The HS Code 871499 further subdivides into subcategories that distinguish between mechanical parts, electrical assemblies, and battery-related components. Commercially, these parts are critical within the electric mobility sector, serving manufacturers, aftermarket suppliers, and repair services. Their application spans urban transport solutions, recreational cycling, and last-mile delivery services, reflecting a growing market demand driven by sustainability initiatives. The value proposition of electric bike parts under this classification hinges on their compliance with international electrical safety standards, durability, and compatibility across multiple e-bike models, ensuring competitive advantage in global trade. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 871499 falls under Chapter 87 (Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, and parts and accessories thereof), Heading 8714 (Parts and accessories of vehicles of headings 8711 to 8713), with subheading 871499 specifying parts for electric bicycles. The classification rationale is based on the exclusion of complete vehicles (covered under 8711) and focuses on components designed exclusively for electrically assisted bicycles. Trade compliance necessitates adherence to precise packaging standards, often involving anti-static and moisture-resistant materials to preserve electronic integrity during shipment. Standard preservation methods include desiccants and sealed containers to mitigate corrosion and humidity exposure. Shipping requirements mandate clear labeling with HS codes, country of origin marks, and compliance with the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement to facilitate customs clearance. Quality standards typically reference ISO 4210 for bicycle safety, IEC 62133 for battery safety, and RoHS directives for electronic components. These specifications ensure the parts meet international trade protocols and facilitate accurate customs classification, thereby streamlining import/export processes and minimizing regulatory risks.
Electric bike parts Chapter Note
1.- This Chapter does not cover railway or tramway rolling-stock designed solely for running on rails. 2.- For the purposes of this Chapter, “tractors” means vehicles constructed essentially for hauling or pushing another vehicle, appliance or load, whether or not they contain subsidiary provision for the transport, in connection with the main use of the tractor, of tools, seeds, fertilisers or other goods. Machines and working tools designed for fitting to tractors of heading 87.01 as interchangeable equipment remain classified in their respective headings even if presented with the tractor, and whether or not mounted on it. 3.- Motor chassis fitted with cabs fall in headings 87.02 to 87.04, and not in heading 87.06. 4.- Heading 87.12 includes all children's bicycles. Other children's cycles fall in heading 95.03.
