Electric guitar HS Code description

Electric guitar harmonized system code

Product Overview Electric guitars classified under HS Code 920790 are defined as stringed musical instruments that produce sound electronically via electromagnetic pickups, distinct from acoustic guitars. These instruments typically feature a solid or semi-hollow wooden body, a neck with 21 to 24 frets, and six steel strings, though variations with seven or more strings exist. Processing involves precision manufacturing techniques including CNC machining, electronic component integration, and quality-controlled assembly to ensure tonal consistency, playability, and durability. The HS Code 920790 encompasses several subcategories such as solid-body electric guitars, semi-hollow body electric guitars, and specialized models incorporating advanced electronics or custom hardware. Commercially, electric guitars serve professional musicians, educational institutions, and entertainment sectors, with applications ranging from live performances to studio recording. Positioned as essential instruments within the music equipment market, their value proposition lies in technological innovation, tonal versatility, and compliance with international manufacturing standards, which collectively enhance their appeal to global importers and distributors. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The electric guitar falls under HS Code 920790, where 92 represents Chapter 92: Musical Instruments; 07 designates the Heading for stringed musical instruments, and 90 specifies electric guitars as a subheading within this category. This classification is based on the instrument’s electronic sound production mechanism, differentiating it from acoustic variants under related headings. For international trade, electric guitars are typically packaged in robust, shock-absorbent cases or cartons, designed to mitigate mechanical damage and environmental exposure during transit. Preservation standards include humidity control and anti-corrosion treatments on metal components to maintain product integrity. Shipping often requires compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations for packaging and handling. Quality standards adhere to ISO 9001 manufacturing protocols and relevant IEC electrical safety norms, ensuring conformity with WTO agreements and facilitating customs clearance. Accurate documentation reflecting these specifications supports tariff classification, valuation, and regulatory compliance essential for cross-border commercial transactions.
