Flavor - food flavor HS Code description

Flavor - food flavor harmonized system code

Product Overview Flavor - Food Flavor classified under HS Code 330210 encompasses concentrated and blended substances specifically formulated to impart taste and aroma to food products. These food flavors may be natural, nature-identical, or synthetic compounds presented in liquid, powder, or paste forms. Key characteristics include high purity levels, stability under thermal processing, and compliance with food-grade safety standards such as ISO 22000 and Codex Alimentarius. The product range under HS 330210 includes single flavors, compound flavors, and flavor enhancers, each designed for precise sensory modification. Commercially, these flavors are utilized extensively in food manufacturing sectors including bakery, beverages, dairy, confectionery, and savory products, facilitating consistent taste profiles and product differentiation. The value proposition of food flavors under this classification lies in their ability to enhance organoleptic qualities efficiently while adhering to regulatory requirements across international markets, thus supporting product innovation and localization in global supply chains. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 330210 is structured within Chapter 33 (Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations), under Heading 3302 (Mixtures of odoriferous substances and mixtures as raw materials for industry), with Subheading 330210 specifically assigned to food flavors. This classification is justified by the product’s primary function as a flavoring agent intended for food applications, differentiating it from non-food or cosmetic flavor compounds. Trade considerations include packaging typically in hermetically sealed containers ranging from 1 kg to 25 kg to ensure product integrity and prevent volatilization. Preservation methods emphasize protection from light, oxygen, and moisture to maintain flavor stability during transit. Shipping generally requires adherence to international standards such as IATA and IMDG for chemical substances when applicable. Quality standards mandate compliance with food safety regulations, including but not limited to FDA, EFSA, and WTO SPS agreements, ensuring accurate customs classification and facilitating seamless cross-border trade documentation.
