Fuel cap HS Code description

Fuel cap harmonized system code

Product Overview The fuel cap classified under HS Code 870899 is a precision-engineered closure component designed to securely seal fuel tanks in automotive and related machinery applications. Typically constructed from high-grade materials such as corrosion-resistant metals or reinforced polymers, these caps exhibit stringent dimensional tolerances and robust sealing capabilities to prevent fuel leakage and contamination. The product range under this classification encompasses various designs including locking caps, vented caps, and quick-release variants, each conforming to industry-specific performance standards. With processing levels ranging from raw casting to precision machining and surface treatment, these fuel caps ensure durability, chemical resistance, and compatibility with diverse fuel types including gasoline and diesel. Commercially, they serve critical roles in automotive manufacturing, aftermarket parts supply, and fuel system maintenance within transportation, logistics, and equipment rental sectors. Positioned as essential safety and functional components, these fuel caps offer competitive advantages through compliance with regulatory standards, enhanced sealing integrity, and adaptability to multiple vehicle makes and models, thereby supporting international trade demands for quality and reliability. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The fuel cap falls under HS Code 870899, where "87" denotes Chapter XVII covering vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock; "08" specifies parts and accessories of motor vehicles; and "99" classifies miscellaneous parts not elsewhere specified. This product is appropriately classified here due to its integral role as a motor vehicle component designed for fuel system closure, distinct from other automotive parts by its specific function and material composition. Trade considerations for these fuel caps include standardized packaging in bulk cartons or individual protective casings to prevent deformation and contamination during transit. Preservation methods prioritize corrosion inhibition and resistance to environmental factors, ensuring compliance with international shipping protocols such as ISPM 15 where applicable. Quality standards align with ISO/TS 16949 automotive sector requirements and ASTM material specifications, guaranteeing performance consistency. Documentation supporting customs clearance frequently references conformity certificates, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and origin declarations, facilitating seamless cross-border trade under WTO regulations and harmonized tariff schedules. This classification and trade framework support accurate tariff application, regulatory adherence, and efficient logistics management for global importers and exporters.

Fuel cap Chapter Note

1.- This Chapter does not cover railway or tramway rolling-stock designed solely for running on rails. 2.- For the purposes of this Chapter, “tractors” means vehicles constructed essentially for hauling or pushing another vehicle, appliance or load, whether or not they contain subsidiary provision for the transport, in connection with the main use of the tractor, of tools, seeds, fertilisers or other goods. Machines and working tools designed for fitting to tractors of heading 87.01 as interchangeable equipment remain classified in their respective headings even if presented with the tractor, and whether or not mounted on it. 3.- Motor chassis fitted with cabs fall in headings 87.02 to 87.04, and not in heading 87.06. 4.- Heading 87.12 includes all children's bicycles. Other children's cycles fall in heading 95.03.
