Hacksaw blade HS Code description

Hacksaw blade harmonized system code

Product Overview The hacksaw blade classified under HS Code 820291 is a precision-engineered cutting tool designed primarily for use in metal cutting applications. This product comprises high-strength alloy steel or carbon steel, manufactured through processes including heat treatment, grinding, and surface finishing to ensure optimal hardness and durability. Typical physical specifications include lengths ranging from 150 mm to 300 mm, thicknesses between 0.5 mm and 1.2 mm, and a tooth pitch tailored for specific cutting tasks, generally varying from 14 to 32 teeth per inch (TPI). Under HS Code 820291, blades are segmented into subcategories based on tooth design (e.g., standard, bi-metal, or carbide-tipped) and intended cutting material (e.g., ferrous or non-ferrous metals). Commercially, these blades are indispensable in sectors such as manufacturing, metal fabrication, automotive repair, and construction, facilitating precise cutting and shaping of metal components. The product’s value proposition lies in its engineered resilience, dimensional accuracy, and compatibility with standard hacksaw frames, positioning it competitively in global markets for industrial tooling and maintenance supplies. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The complete HS Code for the hacksaw blade is 8202.91, where Chapter 82 covers “Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof,” Heading 8202 specifies “Handsaws and parts, of base metal,” and Subheading 8202.91 designates “Hacksaw blades.” This classification is justified by the blade’s function as a cutting accessory designed for manual saw frames, distinct from other saw blades used in power tools or specialized machinery. Trade considerations emphasize packaging in corrosion-resistant materials such as sealed plastic blister packs or metal tins, often grouped in cartons of 10 to 50 units to prevent mechanical damage and oxidation during transit. Preservation protocols comply with ISO 9227 corrosion resistance standards, ensuring product integrity throughout international shipping. Quality benchmarks typically adhere to DIN 7765 or equivalent industry standards for hardness (HRC 58-62) and tooth geometry, facilitating consistent customs verification and compliance with WTO agreements on technical barriers to trade. This structured classification and trade specification framework enable efficient customs clearance and support accurate tariff application for import/export operations.
