Wooden ladder HS Code description
Wooden ladder harmonized system code
Product Overview The wooden ladder classified under HS Code 442199 refers to a manually operated access tool constructed primarily from processed timber. This product typically features high-grade hardwood or softwood, treated and finished for durability and strength, with standard dimensions ranging from 1.2 to 3 meters in height and rung spacing of approximately 300 mm. The ladder’s design may include fixed or folding mechanisms, with surface treatments such as varnishing or anti-slip coatings to enhance safety and longevity. Within the HS Code 442199 category — “Wooden articles of furniture not elsewhere specified or included” — wooden ladders are further subcategorized based on structural features and intended use cases, distinguishing them from other wooden furniture components. Commercially, these ladders are widely employed in sectors such as food service for inventory access, retail environments for stocking shelves, and processing industries where temporary elevated access is required. Their competitive advantage lies in natural material sustainability, ease of repair, and compliance with safety standards, positioning them as reliable, cost-effective tools in international supply chains. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 442199 is a six-digit classification under Chapter 44 (Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal), Heading 4421 (Other articles of wood), with the subheading 442199 specifically encompassing wooden articles of furniture not elsewhere classified, including wooden ladders. This classification is justified by the ladder’s primary material composition and functionality, which aligns with the category’s scope excluding metal or synthetic alternatives. Trade documentation for wooden ladders under this HS Code mandates adherence to international quality standards such as ISO 9001 for manufacturing and compliance with phytosanitary regulations to prevent pest contamination during import/export. Packaging typically involves shrink-wrapped bundles or protective crates to mitigate damage and moisture ingress during transit, with preservation treatments like kiln drying and fungicidal coatings applied pre-shipment. Shipping requirements emphasize secure stacking and weight distribution to maintain structural integrity. This classification supports accurate tariff application and facilitates customs clearance by providing a clear, standardized product description consistent with WTO Harmonized System protocols.
