Leather jacket HS Code description
Leather jacket harmonized system code
Product Overview Leather jackets classified under HS Code 420310 are outerwear garments constructed primarily from processed leather materials, designed to provide durable, protective, and stylish apparel. These jackets feature a variety of leather types, including full-grain, top-grain, and corrected grain, subjected to tanning and finishing processes that enhance flexibility, water resistance, and abrasion resistance. Physical specifications typically include thickness measurements ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 mm, with reinforced stitching and metal or plastic fasteners ensuring structural integrity. The HS Code 420310 encompasses subcategories such as men’s, women’s, and unisex leather jackets, each differentiated by design elements, lining materials, and functional attributes like insulation or ventilation. Commercially, these jackets serve end-use sectors including retail fashion outlets, protective workwear for light industrial processing, and specialized apparel suppliers within international markets. Their market positioning is founded on the balance of aesthetic appeal, material durability, and compliance with international leather goods standards, providing importers and distributors with a product that meets both consumer demand and regulatory requirements. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full HS Code for leather jackets is 420310, situated within Chapter 42 (Articles of Leather; Saddlery and Harness; Travel Goods), Heading 4203 (Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories, of Leather or of Composition Leather), and Subheading 420310 (Leather jackets and other articles of apparel, of leather). This classification is justified by the product's material composition—predominantly leather—and its intended use as wearable outer apparel. Trade considerations for HS Code 420310 products include packaging in moisture-resistant, ventilated cartons or polybags to prevent mold and preserve leather quality during transit. Standard preservation involves the application of protective coatings or conditioners prior to shipping, often accompanied by silica gel packets to control humidity. Shipping requirements emphasize temperature-controlled containers for lengthy shipments to avoid leather degradation. Compliance with international quality standards such as ISO 17065 for leather goods and adherence to WTO rules of origin and customs valuation protocols is mandatory, ensuring smooth customs clearance and conformity with import/export documentation. Detailed product specifications including weight (typically 1.2-2.5 kg per unit), dimensions, and material certifications are essential for accurate tariff classification and duty assessment.
