Leather keychain HS Code description

Leather keychain harmonized system code

Product Overview The leather keychain classified under HS Code 420500 is defined as a small accessory item composed primarily of processed leather materials, designed for holding and organizing keys. This product typically features a compact form factor with dimensions ranging from 5 to 10 centimeters in length, incorporating metallic hardware components such as rings and clasps made from stainless steel or brass to ensure durability. The leather used is generally full-grain or top-grain, subjected to tanning and finishing processes that enhance its resistance to wear, moisture, and deformation. HS Code 420500 encompasses leather articles including wallets, purses, and similar products, with leather keychains categorized under subheadings specifically designated for leather goods of a non-apparel nature. Commercially, these keychains serve functional and branding purposes across industries such as retail, hospitality, and food service, where they are used for key management and promotional giveaways. Their value proposition lies in combining durability, aesthetic appeal, and customization potential, positioning them competitively in both B2B procurement and international merchandise trade markets. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The leather keychain falls under the HS Code 420500, which is broken down as follows: Chapter 42 – Articles of leather; Heading 05 – Other articles of leather or of composition leather; Subheading 00 – Specific leather articles not elsewhere classified. This classification is justified by the product’s primary material composition (leather) and its functional design as a small accessory distinct from apparel or luggage. Trade professionals must note that packaging typically involves protective wrapping in polyethylene or kraft paper, followed by carton boxing to prevent abrasion and moisture ingress during transit. Preservation standards mandate storage in cool, dry conditions to maintain leather integrity, adhering to ISO 15729 for leather preservation during shipping. Shipping methods commonly utilize consolidated container loads to optimize cost-efficiency, with documentation requiring clear product descriptions, material content, and origin under WTO agreements. Quality standards conform with ISO 9001 certification frameworks and must meet specific physical criteria such as tensile strength exceeding 15 MPa and moisture content below 15% to ensure compliance with international customs and trade regulations.
