Leather phone case HS Code description
Leather phone case harmonized system code
Product Overview The leather phone case classified under HS Code 420291 is a protective accessory specifically designed to encase and safeguard mobile devices, constructed primarily from genuine or synthetic leather materials. This product is characterized by precise dimensional tolerances typically ranging from 140 mm to 160 mm in length and 70 mm to 80 mm in width, accommodating standard smartphone sizes. The manufacturing process involves leather tanning, cutting, stitching, and finishing treatments that enhance durability, resistance to abrasion, and aesthetic appeal. Under HS Code 420291, which pertains to "Articles of Leather or of Composition Leather," this product falls within subcategories that include small leather goods such as wallets, purses, and phone cases. Commercially, leather phone cases serve critical roles in retail environments and consumer electronics distribution channels, offering protective solutions during device transportation and daily use. Their market positioning hinges on combining functional protection with premium material quality, appealing to both mass-market and niche segments requiring durability and style compliance. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 420291 is structured as follows: Chapter 42 covers "Articles of Leather; Saddlery and Harness; Travel Goods, Handbags and Similar Containers; Articles of Animal Gut (Other Than Silkworm Gut)." Heading 4202 specifies "Trunks, Suitcases, Vanity Cases, Executive Cases, Briefcases, School Satchels and Similar Containers," while Subheading 420291 designates "Articles of Leather or of Composition Leather, Other than those specified under other subheadings." This classification is justified by the product’s primary material composition (leather) and its function as a protective container for electronic devices. Trade considerations include packaging in protective cartons with humidity control measures to prevent leather degradation during transit. Typical preservation involves maintaining relative humidity levels between 40-60% and temperature control between 15-25°C to preserve leather integrity. Shipping requirements conform to international standards such as the Harmonized System and WTO agreements, ensuring accurate customs declarations and tariff applications. Quality standards align with ISO 17065 certification for leather goods, emphasizing dimensional accuracy, tensile strength, and colorfastness, thereby facilitating compliance with global import/export regulations.
