Led strip light HS Code description

Led strip light harmonized system code

Product Overview The LED strip light classified under HS Code 940542 is defined as a flexible or rigid lighting device comprising an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) mounted on a circuit board, designed primarily for illumination and decorative lighting applications. These products typically feature varying lengths (commonly from 1 to 10 meters), customizable color temperatures (ranging from 2700K to 6500K), and power ratings between 4.8W to 24W per meter. Constructed with high-grade materials such as copper-clad flex PCBs and encased in silicone or epoxy resin for durability and moisture resistance, these lights exhibit advanced processing levels including surface mount technology (SMT) and integrated circuit control for dimming and color adjustment. Under HS Code 940542, LED strip lights fall within the broader category of electric lamps and lighting fittings, specifically subcategories that distinguish between types of lighting fixtures and their intended applications. Commercially, these LED strip lights serve critical functions in sectors such as food service for display case illumination, retail environments for accent lighting and product highlighting, and processing industries requiring energy-efficient, low-heat lighting solutions. Their market positioning emphasizes energy efficiency, longevity (up to 50,000 operating hours), and adaptability to varied installation environments, offering competitive advantages in cost-effectiveness and compliance with energy regulations. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The complete HS Code for LED strip lights is 9405.42, where Chapter 94 covers “Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included.” Heading 9405 pertains to “Lamps and lighting fittings including searchlights and spotlights and parts thereof, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated signs, illuminated name-plates and the like; prefabricated buildings.” Subheading 9405.42 specifically classifies “Electric table, desk, bedside or floor-standing lamps.” The classification rationale is based on the product’s function as an electric lighting fitting primarily intended for fixed or flexible installation in commercial or industrial settings. Trade considerations for these products include packaging in anti-static, moisture-resistant materials to preserve electronic components and prevent damage during transit. Standard shipping requirements call for secure crating or carton boxing to mitigate mechanical shocks, with preservation measures such as desiccant inclusion and temperature control during storage to maintain product integrity. Quality standards align with IEC 60598 and relevant regional certifications (e.g., CE, UL), ensuring compliance with international safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and energy efficiency directives. Documentation supporting customs clearance must reference these classifications and include detailed technical specifications to facilitate accurate tariff application and regulatory adherence in global trade operations.
