Motorcycle exhaust HS Code description

Motorcycle exhaust harmonized system code

Product Overview Motorcycle exhaust systems classified under HS Code 871410 refer to engineered assemblies designed to channel and expel combustion gases from motorcycle engines. These components are typically fabricated from high-grade stainless steel, aluminum alloys, or titanium to ensure durability, corrosion resistance, and optimal thermal performance. Exhaust systems within this classification encompass various types, including slip-on mufflers, full exhaust kits, and catalytic converters, each subjected to precision manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, and surface treatments to meet stringent quality standards. The product range under 871410 is subdivided based on design complexity and functionality, including sport exhausts, touring exhausts, and aftermarket performance systems. These exhaust systems are integral to motorcycle operation, contributing to emissions control, noise reduction, and engine efficiency. Predominantly utilized in motorcycle manufacturing, aftermarket upgrades, and repair services, they hold significant commercial value in automotive, motorsport, and leisure vehicle markets. Their design and material composition position them competitively in terms of weight reduction, durability, and compliance with international emission regulations. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 871410 falls under Chapter 87 (Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock), Heading 8714 (Parts and accessories of motorcycles), with the subheading 871410 specifying exhaust systems and silencers. This classification is justified by the product’s function as an integral motorcycle component designed for emission and noise control. Trade documentation requires accurate representation of the product’s technical specifications, including material composition, dimensions (typically ranging from 300mm to 900mm in length), and compliance with standards such as EURO 5 or EPA emission regulations. Common packaging methods involve protective wrapping, corrosion inhibitors, and secure palletization to prevent mechanical damage during transit. Preservation techniques must ensure the integrity of metal surfaces against oxidation and contamination. Shipping considerations include adherence to international transport regulations, with preference for containerized freight to mitigate handling risks. Quality assurance aligns with ISO/TS 16949 automotive standards, and compliance with WTO trade facilitation agreements ensures smooth customs clearance. Detailed product documentation supports harmonized system classification, facilitating tariff determination, trade statistics accuracy, and regulatory adherence in global markets.

Motorcycle exhaust Chapter Note

1.- This Chapter does not cover railway or tramway rolling-stock designed solely for running on rails. 2.- For the purposes of this Chapter, “tractors” means vehicles constructed essentially for hauling or pushing another vehicle, appliance or load, whether or not they contain subsidiary provision for the transport, in connection with the main use of the tractor, of tools, seeds, fertilisers or other goods. Machines and working tools designed for fitting to tractors of heading 87.01 as interchangeable equipment remain classified in their respective headings even if presented with the tractor, and whether or not mounted on it. 3.- Motor chassis fitted with cabs fall in headings 87.02 to 87.04, and not in heading 87.06. 4.- Heading 87.12 includes all children's bicycles. Other children's cycles fall in heading 95.03.
