Mugs & cups - ceramic coffee mugs HS Code description
Mugs & cups - ceramic coffee mugs harmonized system code
Product Overview Ceramic Coffee Mugs classified under HS Code 691200 encompass mugs and cups primarily made from ceramic materials, designed for the consumption of hot beverages such as coffee and tea. These products are characterized by their high-fired ceramic composition, typically porcelain or stoneware, ensuring durability, thermal resistance, and non-porosity. Physical specifications generally include capacities ranging from 150 ml to 400 ml, with standard dimensions adhering to ergonomic design principles for comfortable handling. The manufacturing process involves shaping, glazing, and kiln-firing at temperatures exceeding 1200°C to achieve optimal hardness and aesthetic finish. The HS Code 691200 is subdivided into various subcategories based on material composition and application, including glazed ceramic tableware, porcelain cups, and other ceramic drinking vessels. Commercially, these mugs are widely utilized across food service sectors, hospitality, retail, and institutional catering, serving both functional and branding purposes. Their value proposition lies in their reusability, thermal insulation properties, and compliance with food safety standards, positioning them as essential inventory items for businesses requiring reliable and standardized drinkware solutions. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 691200 falls within Chapter 69 (Ceramic Products), specifically under Heading 6912, which identifies ceramic mugs and cups. The complete 6-digit code 691200 classifies ceramic coffee mugs as distinct from other ceramic household articles due to their intended use and material properties. This classification is substantiated by the product’s composition (ceramic), finished state (glazed or unglazed), and primary function (beverage consumption). Trade considerations for these items include packaging in sturdy corrugated fiberboard cartons with protective padding to prevent chipping, commonly shipped in palletized loads to ensure stability during transit. Preservation methods emphasize moisture and impact protection to maintain product integrity. Quality standards adhere to international benchmarks such as ISO 6486 for ceramic ware safety and compliance with FDA and EU food contact regulations, ensuring non-toxicity and durability. Documentation for customs clearance requires precise product descriptions, material declarations, and adherence to WTO valuation principles. This classification supports uniform tariff application and facilitates smooth customs processing under global trade frameworks.
