Nail products - nail polish & gel HS Code description
Nail products - nail polish & gel harmonized system code
Product Overview Nail Products under HS Code 330430 encompass nail polishes and gels formulated for cosmetic application on fingernails and toenails. These products are defined as liquid or semi-solid preparations comprising film-forming agents, solvents, plasticizers, pigments, and other additives, designed to provide color, protection, and aesthetic enhancement to nails. Physically, nail polishes typically present as viscous liquids with drying properties, while nail gels are thicker, often requiring curing under ultraviolet (UV) or light-emitting diode (LED) lamps to achieve polymerization. Quality attributes include durability, adhesion, gloss retention, and resistance to chipping, with formulations adhering to cosmetic safety standards. The HS Code 330430 classifies subcategories such as traditional nail polishes, gel polishes, base coats, top coats, and quick-dry variants. Commercially, these products are primarily utilized in personal care retail, professional salon services, and cosmetic manufacturing sectors, serving both end consumers and business-to-business markets. Their market positioning reflects a balance of formulation innovation, regulatory compliance, and packaging suitability for international distribution. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 330430 falls under Chapter 33 (Essential Oils and Resinoids; Perfumery, Cosmetic or Toilet Preparations), Heading 3304 (Beauty or Make-Up Preparations), with the subheading 330430 specifically assigned to nail polishes and gels. This classification is based on the product’s composition and intended cosmetic function, distinguishing it from other beauty preparations. Trade documentation requires precise identification under this code to ensure adherence to WTO harmonized system standards and customs regulations. Typical packaging involves sealed glass or plastic bottles ranging from 5ml to 15ml, designed to prevent evaporation and contamination. Preservation methods focus on maintaining formulation stability by protecting against light and air exposure during transit. Shipping conditions usually mandate temperature-controlled environments to avoid degradation of polymerizing agents in gel products. Compliance with international quality standards such as ISO 22716 (Cosmetics GMP) and adherence to regional regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU Cosmetics Regulation, FDA guidelines) are critical for customs clearance and market access. This detailed classification and trade specification framework facilitates accurate tariff application, risk assessment, and streamlined international trade operations.
