Organic fertilizer HS Code description

Organic fertilizer harmonized system code

Product Overview Organic Fertilizer under HS code 3101 is a product primarily composed of animal or plant matter that has undergone decomposition, providing nutrient-rich matter to enhance soil fertility. Its key characteristics include its granular physical form, variable nutrient content, and natural processing methods. Organic Fertilizers under this category include animal-based fertilizers (e.g., manure, bone meal), plant-based fertilizers (e.g., compost, seaweed extracts), and mineral-based fertilizers (e.g., rock phosphate, lime). These sub-classifications within HS code 3101 reflect the diverse origins and compositions of organic fertilizers. Their primary commercial applications are in the agricultural sector, including farming and horticulture, and retail sale for home gardening. The positioning of organic fertilizer in the market is its capacity to improve soil structure, fertility, and productivity without the use of synthetic chemicals, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly solution for soil management. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 3101 is structured under Chapter 31 (Fertilizers), Heading 01 (Animal or Vegetable Fertilizers), including organic and inorganic fertilizers, whether or not mixed together or chemically processed. The rationale for classifying Organic Fertilizer under this code is its composition from decomposed organic matter and its use in enhancing soil fertility. Trade considerations for this product include packaging in bags or bulk containers for shipping, with preservation methods including airtight packaging to maintain nutrient content. Quality standards for Organic Fertilizer under HS Code 3101 include specific nutrient content, moisture levels, and absence of contaminants, reinforcing its compliance with international trade regulations. These standards, coupled with the product's measurable attributes, ensure that it aligns with World Trade Organization and customs documentation standards, facilitating smooth international trade operations.
