Outdoor furniture HS Code description
Outdoor furniture harmonized system code
Product Overview Outdoor furniture classified under HS Code 940389 encompasses a range of durable furniture items specifically designed for exterior use in residential, commercial, and institutional settings. This category includes products such as garden chairs, tables, benches, loungers, and other seating or furnishing units manufactured predominantly from materials resistant to weathering and corrosion, including treated wood, metal alloys, synthetic resins, and reinforced plastics. These items typically undergo advanced processing stages, including surface coating, UV stabilization, and anti-rust treatments, ensuring extended service life and structural integrity under variable climatic conditions. The classification under 940389 captures subcategories such as metal furniture (94038910), wooden furniture (94038920), and plastic furniture (94038930), each distinguished by constituent materials and manufacturing techniques. Primarily utilized in food service venues, outdoor retail environments, and industrial processing areas requiring robust and maintenance-efficient furnishing solutions, these products offer functionality aligned with ergonomic design and compliance with safety standards. Their market positioning is underpinned by the balance of durability, aesthetic versatility, and cost-efficiency, catering to international demand for reliable exterior furnishing solutions. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 940389 falls within Chapter 94 (Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions) and specifically under Heading 9403, which pertains to furniture and parts thereof. The full 6-digit code 940389 denotes “Other furniture and parts thereof,” excluding those made of metal (94038910) or wood (94038920), thereby encompassing furniture made from plastics and other materials suitable for outdoor use. The classification rationale is based on the product’s functional use as furniture, its material composition, and its design for outdoor application, which aligns with international HS nomenclature and WTO guidelines. Trade considerations emphasize packaging that protects against moisture ingress and mechanical damage, commonly involving shrink-wrapping, reinforced cartons, and palletization to facilitate safe handling during multimodal transport. Preservation techniques include anti-corrosion coatings and UV-resistant finishes to maintain product integrity throughout shipping and storage. Quality standards adhere to ISO 7173 and relevant ASTM specifications for outdoor furniture, ensuring compliance with international safety, durability, and environmental regulations. Accurate classification and documentation under HS 940389 are critical for tariff determination, customs clearance, and trade compliance in cross-border transactions.
