Peanut oil HS Code description

Peanut oil harmonized system code

Product Overview Peanut Oil, classified under Harmonized System (HS) Code 1508, is a vegetable oil derived from peanuts, also known as groundnuts. This oil is characterized by its light yellow color, mild flavor, and high smoking point, making it a preferred choice for frying and sautéing. It is available in different processing levels, including refined, unrefined, cold-pressed, and roasted varieties. The HS Code 1508 encompasses a broad range of peanut oil products, including crude oil (HS Code 1508.10) and refined varieties (HS Code 1508.90). The oil is extensively used in food service and retail sectors, often in cooking and salad dressings. In the processing industry, it serves as a vital ingredient in the manufacturing of margarine, shortening, and confectionery products. The product’s value proposition lies in its health benefits, as it is high in monounsaturated fats, low in saturated fats, and free from trans fats, providing a competitive edge in the health-conscious market segment. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for Peanut Oil is 1508, with the first two digits (15) representing the chapter for "Animal or Vegetable Fats and Oils and Their Cleavage Products; Prepared Edible Fats; Animal or Vegetable Waxes." The following two digits (08) represent the heading for "Ground-Nut Oil and Its Fractions," and the last two digits specify the product subcategory. Peanut Oil is classified under this code due to its derivation from groundnuts. Standard packaging and shipping requirements for Peanut Oil involve safe, secure, and clean containers, often in the form of plastic or glass bottles, metal tins, or bulk flexitanks for large quantities. The preservation method primarily involves keeping the oil away from heat, light, and oxygen to maintain its quality and extend its shelf life. Quality standards for Peanut Oil in international trade are governed by parameters such as acidity level, peroxide value, and absence of adulterants, with measurements adhering to the Codex Alimentarius Commission standards. This trade-focused product description aims to support customs classification and compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) and customs documentation standards.
