Pet bed - dog bed HS Code description

Pet bed - dog bed harmonized system code

Product Overview The Pet Bed - Dog Bed, classified under HS Code 940490, refers to specialized resting furniture designed primarily for domestic dogs, providing comfort and support. Typically constructed from durable textiles, foam padding, and structural frames such as wood or metal, these beds are engineered to meet ergonomic and hygienic standards. Physical specifications vary widely, with dimensions ranging from small sizes (approximately 50 cm x 40 cm) to large formats exceeding 120 cm x 90 cm, accommodating various dog breeds. The manufacturing process involves multi-stage production including material cutting, assembly, and quality finishing, ensuring resistance to wear, ease of cleaning, and moisture repellency. Within HS Code 940490, subcategories include pet beds differentiated by material composition (e.g., fabric, plastic, foam-based), design type (orthopedic, heated, waterproof), and intended usage (indoor vs. outdoor). Commercially, these products serve retail pet supply chains, veterinary clinics, grooming centers, and specialty pet stores. Their market positioning leverages attributes such as durability, ergonomic design, and compliance with safety standards, offering importers and distributors reliable, high-quality inventory aligned with consumer demand and regulatory requirements. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The Pet Bed - Dog Bed falls under HS Code 940490, which is structured as follows: Chapter 94 (Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings), Heading 9404 (Mattress supports; articles of bedding and similar furnishing), and Subheading 940490 (Other articles of bedding and similar furnishing). This classification is justified by the product’s primary function as a furnishing item designed for pet comfort rather than human use, distinguishing it from other mattress or furniture categories. Trade considerations for this product include packaging in protective corrugated cartons with internal cushioning to prevent deformation during transit. Preservation methods focus on moisture and pest protection, often employing vacuum-sealed plastic wrapping or desiccants to maintain product integrity. Shipping typically adheres to standard containerized freight protocols with attention to stacking limitations to avoid compression damage. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 manufacturing processes and relevant ASTM or EN safety regulations for pet products. Compliance with WTO and international customs documentation standards ensures smooth clearance and accurate tariff application, facilitating efficient cross-border trade operations.
