Playground equipment HS Code description

Playground equipment harmonized system code

Product Overview Playground equipment classified under HS Code 9506.99 encompasses a broad range of apparatus designed primarily for recreational use by children in public and private outdoor and indoor playgrounds. This category includes structures such as slides, swings, climbing frames, seesaws, and multi-functional playsets constructed from materials like treated wood, metal alloys, and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). These products undergo rigorous processing stages including precision fabrication, surface finishing to prevent corrosion, and safety compliance testing to meet international standards such as ASTM F1487 and EN 1176. Subcategories within 9506.99 cover diverse playground apparatus not elsewhere specified, including modular units, standalone equipment, and integrated play systems. Commercially, these products are integral to municipal parks, educational institutions, recreational centers, and residential developments, offering durable and safety-compliant solutions. Their market positioning is underpinned by adherence to stringent safety standards, material resilience, and modular design flexibility, making them suitable for export markets requiring certified playground installations. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 9506.99 falls under Chapter 95 (Toys, Games, and Sports Equipment), Heading 9506 (Articles and Equipment for General Physical Exercise, Gymnastics, Athletics, Other Sports, or Outdoor Games, Not Specified Elsewhere), with Subheading 9506.99 specifying “Other articles and equipment.” The classification is based on the product’s primary function as recreational playground apparatus not individually classified under other headings. Trade compliance necessitates packaging that ensures protection against mechanical damage and environmental exposure during transit, typically involving shrink-wrapping and palletization. Preservation methods focus on corrosion resistance treatments and UV stabilization of polymer components to maintain product integrity. Shipping requirements adhere to International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards, ensuring safe and compliant transport. Quality standards mandate conformity with ISO 8124, ASTM, and EN safety and durability criteria, supporting customs documentation and facilitating efficient clearance in global trade channels. This classification framework aligns with World Customs Organization conventions and WTO trade facilitation agreements to streamline import/export procedures.
