Plywood - commercial grade HS Code description

Plywood - commercial grade harmonized system code

Product Overview Commercial Grade Plywood classified under HS Code 4412 is a panel consisting of an odd number of thin piles of wood, also known as veneers, bonded together with a strong adhesive. It is characterized by its excellent strength, flexibility, and resistance to cracking, shrinkage, twisting, warping, and high impacts. The plywood under this HS Code is typically processed to various levels of thickness, ranging from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch or higher, depending on its intended application. The subcategories within HS Code 4412 can be broken down into veneered panels and similar laminated wood, and other plywood, veneered wood, and articles of wood. The commercial applications of this plywood are vast and diverse, including construction, furniture manufacturing, packaging, and flooring. Its market positioning is built on its durability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness, making it a highly competitive choice for a wide range of industrial and commercial uses. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for Commercial Grade Plywood is 4412.10, with the hierarchical breakdown being Chapter 44 (Wood and Articles of Wood), Heading 12 (Plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood). The rationale for this classification lies in the product's composition and manufacturing process, which involves the bonding of thin layers of wood to form a panel. In terms of trade considerations, plywood is usually packed in pallets for ease of shipping and to minimize damage during transit. It is typically preserved by varnishing or painting to prevent moisture absorption and to enhance its durability. Compliance with quality standards such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is paramount, particularly ISO 12466-1:1997 that specifies the requirements for bonding quality of exterior plywood. The use of precise technical terminology and adherence to WTO and customs documentation standards ensure a smooth international trading process.
