Porcelain mug HS Code description
Porcelain mug harmonized system code
Product Overview The porcelain mug classified under HS Code 691110 is defined as a durable drinking vessel manufactured primarily from refined kaolin-based ceramic materials exhibiting high vitrification and low porosity. These mugs typically possess a cylindrical shape with a capacity range of 200 to 400 milliliters, featuring smooth glazed surfaces that ensure non-porous, hygienic contact with consumables. The production process involves high-temperature firing (typically exceeding 1,200°C) to achieve optimal mechanical strength, thermal shock resistance, and aesthetic consistency. Under HS Code 691110, porcelain mugs are categorized within the broader group of "Tableware, kitchenware, other household articles and toilet articles, of porcelain or china," with subcategories distinguishing between cups, mugs, and other drinking vessels based on design and intended use. Commercially, these mugs are extensively utilized in food service establishments, retail outlets, hospitality sectors, and promotional merchandise markets, valued for their robustness, chemical inertness, and suitability for hot and cold beverages. Their competitive advantages include superior durability, resistance to staining and scratching, and compliance with food safety standards, positioning them as preferred choices for both domestic and international trade. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The porcelain mug falls under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 691110, where "69" designates Chapter 69 covering "Ceramic products," "11" specifies Heading 6911 for "Tableware, kitchenware, other household articles and toilet articles, of porcelain or china," and the final two digits "10" identify mugs and similar drinking vessels. This classification is based on the product’s material composition—refined porcelain—and its functional design as a drinking vessel, consistent with WTO and international customs nomenclature guidelines. Trade considerations include standard packaging protocols such as double-layered corrugated cartons with individual protective padding to mitigate breakage during transit. Preservation methods emphasize moisture control and temperature stability to prevent glazing defects or microfractures. Shipping requirements adhere to International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards when applicable, ensuring secure palletization and labeling for customs clearance. Quality standards conform to ISO 6486 for ceramic tableware safety and ASTM C1162 for porcelain composition and firing quality. Compliance with these specifications facilitates smooth cross-border movement and accurate tariff application, supporting import/export documentation and customs broker assessments efficiently.
