Protein bar HS Code description

Protein bar harmonized system code

Product Overview A Protein Bar, classified under the Harmonized System (HS) Code 2106, is a ready-to-eat, processed foodstuff primarily composed of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The primary source of protein in these bars may vary, ranging from whey, casein, or plant-based proteins like soy or pea protein. Physical specifications include a solid, rectangular, compact shape usually weighing between 40g to 100g. The product under HS Code 2106 undergoes various processing levels, including mixing, baking, and packaging, adhering to strict quality controls to maintain nutritional integrity and taste. This category further subdivides into various protein bar types based on ingredients, nutritional content, and dietary considerations like gluten-free, vegan, or low-sugar options. Commercially, protein bars have diverse applications such as quick meal replacements, dietary supplements in fitness and wellness sectors, and retail sale in supermarkets and health stores. Their compact size, long shelf life, and high nutritional value make them a preferred choice for busy, health-conscious consumers, positioning them competitively in the global market. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 2106.90.30 specifically applies to protein bars. The hierarchical breakdown entails Chapter 21 (Miscellaneous Edible Preparations), Heading 06 (Food Preparations Not Elsewhere Specified or Included), and Subheading 30 (Other). Protein bars fall under this code due to their composite nature and categorization as a food preparation not specified elsewhere. Trade considerations include packaging in individually wrapped, sealed wrappers to ensure product freshness and prevent contamination. Preservation is usually through controlled humidity and temperature environments, with shipping requiring dry, cool storage. Key quality standards include maintaining specific nutritional content, adhering to food safety protocols, and complying with labeling regulations. The product’s HS Code, country of origin, nutritional information, and manufacturer details must be clearly listed on the packaging, in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) and customs documentation standards. This detailed classification supports customs identification, expedites trade documentation procedures, and ensures compliance with international trade norms.
