Pvc leather HS Code description

Pvc leather harmonized system code

Product Overview Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) leather, classified under HS Code 590310, is a synthetic coated fabric composed primarily of a textile base impregnated or coated with a PVC polymer layer to simulate the appearance and texture of natural leather. This material exhibits high durability, abrasion resistance, and water repellency, with typical thickness ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm and tensile strengths between 15 to 30 MPa, depending on processing techniques such as calendaring or lamination. The product under this classification includes various finishes, including embossed, smooth, or printed surfaces, and may be reinforced with fabric backings such as polyester or cotton. Subcategories within 590310 encompass PVC leather in different forms: laminated, coated, or otherwise prepared, distinguished by their surface treatments and intended end-use specifications. Commercially, PVC leather is widely utilized in the manufacturing of upholstery for the food service sector, retail display fixtures, automotive interiors, and protective coverings in processing industries, where hygiene, ease of cleaning, and chemical resistance are critical. Its cost-effectiveness and versatility position it as a competitive alternative to natural leather in international markets, meeting stringent durability and compliance standards. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 590310 falls within Chapter 59—impregnated, coated, covered or laminated textile fabrics—and specifically under Heading 5903, which covers textile fabrics coated with polymeric substances. The subheading 590310 identifies PVC leather, distinguishing it from other polymer-coated textiles by the polymer type and processing method. Classification rationale hinges on the presence of a PVC coating that imparts leather-like properties while retaining a textile substrate, differentiating it from other synthetic or natural leather products classified under separate codes. Trade considerations emphasize standardized packaging in rolls or folded sheets, typically protected by moisture-resistant wrapping to prevent degradation during transit. Preservation methods may include temperature and humidity controls depending on destination climate to maintain material integrity. Shipping requirements adhere to international trade protocols, including compliance with WTO agreements and customs documentation specifying precise product descriptions, origin, and physical parameters such as weight per unit area (g/m²) and thickness. Quality standards reference ISO 17235 for coated textiles, ensuring resistance to abrasion (minimum 10,000 cycles Martindale test), colorfastness, and chemical stability, facilitating smooth customs clearance and regulatory compliance in import/export operations.
