Razor - shaving blades HS Code description
Razor - shaving blades harmonized system code
Product Overview Razor - Shaving Blades classified under HS Code 821220 are precision-engineered cutting implements primarily designed for personal grooming and hygiene applications. These blades consist of thin, flat metal strips, typically manufactured from high-carbon stainless steel or coated alloys, with thicknesses ranging from 0.05 to 0.15 millimeters to ensure optimal sharpness and durability. The processing involves advanced grinding, honing, and coating procedures—such as chromium or platinum layering—to enhance corrosion resistance and edge retention. The HS Code 821220 encompasses disposable and reusable razor blades, including single-edge and double-edge variants, as well as specialty blades designed for electric shavers. Commercially, these blades are extensively utilized within retail sectors, barbershops, and the personal care product manufacturing industry, facilitating efficient facial and body hair removal. Their value proposition lies in precision cutting performance, safety features, and compatibility with various razor handles, positioning them competitively in both consumer and professional grooming markets. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 821220 falls under Chapter 82 (Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal), specifically within Heading 8212 (Razors and razor blades). The full 6-digit code 821220 is designated for "Razors and razor blades (including razor blade blanks in strips)." This classification is based on the blades’ function as cutting tools designed for shaving, distinct from other cutting instruments or industrial blades. Trade compliance requires adherence to packaging standards such as moisture-proof blister packs or sealed plastic cases to maintain blade integrity during transit. Preservation methods include anti-corrosion coatings and inert atmosphere packaging to prevent oxidation. Shipping protocols prioritize secure containment to prevent damage and ensure user safety, often incorporating tamper-evident seals. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 manufacturing practices and relevant national safety certifications, ensuring blades meet precise dimensional tolerances, edge sharpness ratings, and biocompatibility criteria. This classification complies with WTO Harmonized System guidelines, facilitating accurate customs valuation and tariff application in international trade.
