Drumstick export HS Code description

Drumstick export harmonized system code

Product Overview Drumstick export classified under HS Code 070999 comprises fresh or chilled pods of Moringa oleifera, commonly referred to as drumsticks, intended for international trade. These pods are characterized by their elongated, cylindrical shape, typically measuring 30 to 60 cm in length, with a diameter of approximately 1.5 to 2 cm. The product is supplied in raw, minimally processed form, ensuring preservation of nutritional quality and freshness. Under HS Code 070999, drumsticks fall within the broader category of "Other vegetables, fresh or chilled," which includes diverse non-specified vegetable pods and shoots. This subcategory is utilized to classify products not explicitly listed elsewhere under HS Codes 0701 to 0708. Drumsticks are primarily used in culinary applications within food service sectors, retail markets, and food processing industries, valued for their high vitamin and mineral content. Their versatility in regional cuisines and growing demand in global markets positions them competitively, particularly when sourced from regions with established agricultural practices and quality assurance protocols. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for drumstick exports is 070999, structured as follows: Chapter 07 (Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers), Heading 0709 (Other vegetables, fresh or chilled), Subheading 070999 (Other vegetables, fresh or chilled, not elsewhere specified). Classification under 070999 is justified by the absence of a more specific subheading for drumsticks within the Harmonized System, necessitating placement in the residual category for miscellaneous fresh vegetables. Trade handling protocols typically involve packaging in ventilated cartons or crates to maintain optimal humidity and temperature conditions, commonly between 0°C and 5°C, to prevent spoilage during transit. Preservation methods emphasize rapid cooling post-harvest and controlled atmosphere shipping to extend shelf life. Quality standards conform to Codex Alimentarius guidelines and importing country phytosanitary requirements, ensuring absence of pests, compliance with maximum residue limits (MRLs), and adherence to stipulated size and maturity criteria. This classification and handling framework aligns with WTO agreements and facilitates seamless customs clearance and trade compliance in international markets.
