Screwdriver HS Code description

Screwdriver harmonized system code

Product Overview The screwdriver classified under HS Code 820540 is a hand tool specifically designed for driving screws, featuring a handle and a shaft with a tip shaped to fit various screw heads. Typically manufactured from high-grade alloy steel with corrosion-resistant coatings, these screwdrivers exhibit precise dimensional tolerances and durable mechanical properties. Key physical specifications include shaft lengths ranging from 50 mm to 300 mm, handle ergonomics optimized for torque application, and tip profiles conforming to standardized screw drive types such as Phillips, slotted, and Pozidriv. The classification 820540 encompasses interchangeable and non-interchangeable blade screwdrivers, excluding those with power-driven mechanisms. These tools find extensive use in food service equipment assembly, retail point-of-sale installations, and processing industry maintenance operations, where reliability and precision are critical. Their robust construction and compliance with international material standards position them competitively within the global market, offering importers and exporters a balance of quality and cost-efficiency suitable for diverse industrial applications. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HS Code 820540 is structured within Chapter 82 (Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal), Heading 8205 (Hand tools), and Subheading 820540 (Screwdrivers). This classification is assigned based on the screwdriver’s function as a hand-operated tool with a fixed or interchangeable blade designed to engage screw heads. Trade considerations for products under this code emphasize standardized packaging, commonly in bulk cartons or blister packs, with protective measures such as anti-corrosion coatings or desiccants to preserve metal integrity during transshipment. Shipping protocols typically require secure containment to prevent mechanical damage and contamination. Quality standards applicable include ISO 8764 for screwdriver tip dimensions and ISO 6789 for torque tools where relevant, ensuring conformity with WTO trade facilitation agreements and customs documentation accuracy. Adhering to these standards facilitates streamlined customs clearance and supports compliance with international trade regulations, making HS Code 820540 screwdrivers a reliable commodity in cross-border commercial transactions.
