Shock absorber HS Code description

Shock absorber harmonized system code

Product Overview Shock absorbers classified under HS Code 870880 are mechanical or hydraulic devices designed to absorb and dampen shock impulses in automotive suspension systems. These components function by converting kinetic energy from suspension movement into thermal energy, thereby stabilizing vehicle motion and enhancing ride comfort. Physically, shock absorbers typically consist of a piston, cylinder, hydraulic fluid, and mounting hardware, with dimensions and specifications varying according to vehicle type and application. Processing levels include precision machining, surface treatment for corrosion resistance, and stringent quality control to ensure durability and performance consistency. The HS Code 870880 encompasses various subcategories, including front and rear shock absorbers, struts, and assemblies integrated with springs, distinguished by their design and mounting configurations. Commercially, these products serve critical roles in automotive manufacturing, aftermarket replacements, and heavy machinery used in food service logistics, retail vehicle fleets, and processing industry transportation systems. Their competitive advantage lies in compliance with international durability standards and adaptability to diverse vehicle models, supporting global supply chain demands. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 870880 is structured as follows: Chapter 87 (Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock), Heading 8708 (Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8705), and Subheading 870880 specifically for shock absorbers and their parts. Classification under this code is justified by the product’s function as an integral suspension component designed exclusively for motor vehicles. Trade professionals must note that packaging typically involves corrosion-resistant materials and secure cushioning to prevent deformation during transit, with preservation methods including anti-rust coatings and desiccant packs to maintain product integrity. Shipping requirements adhere to international maritime and air transport standards, emphasizing weight and dimension optimization to reduce freight costs. Quality standards align with ISO 9001 for manufacturing processes and ISO/TS 16949 for automotive quality management systems, ensuring compliance with WTO agreements and facilitating customs clearance. This classification supports accurate tariff application, duty assessment, and regulatory compliance in international trade environments.

Shock absorber Chapter Note

1.- This Chapter does not cover railway or tramway rolling-stock designed solely for running on rails. 2.- For the purposes of this Chapter, “tractors” means vehicles constructed essentially for hauling or pushing another vehicle, appliance or load, whether or not they contain subsidiary provision for the transport, in connection with the main use of the tractor, of tools, seeds, fertilisers or other goods. Machines and working tools designed for fitting to tractors of heading 87.01 as interchangeable equipment remain classified in their respective headings even if presented with the tractor, and whether or not mounted on it. 3.- Motor chassis fitted with cabs fall in headings 87.02 to 87.04, and not in heading 87.06. 4.- Heading 87.12 includes all children's bicycles. Other children's cycles fall in heading 95.03.
