Stethoscope HS Code description
Stethoscope harmonized system code
Product Overview The Stethoscope under HS Code 9018 is a professional-grade diagnostic instrument primarily used in the healthcare sector for listening to internal sounds of a patient's body. These devices are characterized by their acoustic sensitivity, durable construction, and optimized performance. They typically feature a dual-head chest piece with a tunable diaphragm and a high-quality, flexible tubing that ensures sound integrity and durability. Stethoscopes can be further classified under HS Code 9018 into two subcategories: electronic stethoscopes and acoustic stethoscopes. Electronic stethoscopes amplify body sounds, while acoustic stethoscopes transmit them via air-filled hollow tubes. The commercial applications of these devices extend to hospitals, clinics, medical institutions, and even veterinary practices. The stethoscope’s value proposition lies in its fundamental role in physical examinations and diagnostics, with its competitive advantage being its design that balances comfort, performance, and durability. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full 6-digit HS Code for the Stethoscope is 9018.10, which falls under Chapter 90 (optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus), Heading 18 (instruments and appliances used in medical, surgical, dental or veterinary sciences). The rationale for this classification stems from the stethoscope's primary function as a medical diagnostic instrument. Trade considerations for stethoscopes include their packaging in protective cases or boxes to ensure their safety during transit. Preservation methods generally involve storing the stethoscope in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, while shipping requirements mandate careful handling due to their delicate nature. Quality standards for stethoscopes under HS Code 9018 align with international trade norms, including compliance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and customs documentation standards. These standards ensure the device's acoustic sensitivity, user comfort, and durability, allowing it to consistently deliver accurate and reliable results.
