Surgical - medical mask HS Code description

Surgical - medical mask harmonized system code

Product Overview Surgical - Medical Masks classified under HS Code 630790 are disposable face coverings designed primarily for medical and surgical use, offering barrier protection against airborne particles and fluids. These masks typically consist of multiple layers of non-woven fabric, including a melt-blown filtration layer, to ensure effective filtration efficiency (commonly ≥95% for particles ≥0.3 microns). Physical specifications generally include dimensions approximating 17.5 cm x 9.5 cm, with elastic ear loops or ties for secure fit and comfort. This product category under 630790 encompasses various subtypes such as three-ply surgical masks, fluid-resistant masks, and sterile variants, differentiated by their processing levels and intended clinical applications. Widely utilized across healthcare settings, food service, retail, and processing industries, these masks mitigate contamination risks while complying with occupational health standards. Their market positioning emphasizes reliable protection, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective mass production, making them integral to infection control protocols in international supply chains. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 630790 falls within Chapter 63 – “Other Made-Up Textile Articles; Sets; Worn Clothing and Accessories,” specifically under Heading 6307, which includes “Other made-up articles, including dress patterns.” The six-digit code 630790* designates “Other made-up articles, including masks, of textile materials not elsewhere specified.” This classification applies due to the product’s composition as a textile-based, non-apparel protective article not classified under medical devices but as made-up textile goods. Trade professionals recognize standard packaging formats such as bulk cartons containing 50–200 masks per box, utilizing moisture-resistant liners to maintain product integrity during transit. Preservation involves controlled humidity and temperature conditions to prevent degradation of filtration efficacy. Shipping adheres to international conventions for non-hazardous medical textile goods, with quality standards aligned to ISO 22609 and ASTM F2100 or equivalent, ensuring compliance with WTO and customs documentation protocols. Precise classification under 630790 facilitates accurate tariff application, import/export documentation, and adherence to global trade compliance frameworks.
