Swatch - fabric swatch HS Code description
Swatch - fabric swatch harmonized system code
Product Overview Swatch - Fabric Swatch classified under HS Code 630790 refers to small sample pieces of textile materials primarily used for quality inspection, design evaluation, and selection purposes in various textile-related industries. These fabric swatches consist of woven, knitted, or non-woven textiles processed to meet specific quality standards, including weight (typically measured in grams per square meter, GSM), weave density, fiber composition, colorfastness, and finish treatments such as water-repellency or fire-retardancy. The product encompasses a broad range of fabric types including cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, and technical textiles. Under HS Code 630790, fabric swatches fall within the broader category of “Other made-up textile articles, including dress patterns,” highlighting their role as auxiliary textile products. Their primary commercial applications span textile manufacturing, apparel design, upholstery, automotive interiors, and industrial prototyping sectors. Fabric swatches provide critical utility for importers, designers, and quality controllers by enabling tactile and visual assessment prior to bulk procurement, thereby reducing risk and optimizing material selection. The value proposition lies in their standardized sizing, representative material characteristics, and compliance with international textile quality benchmarks, positioning them as indispensable tools in global textile trade and supply chain management. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The Harmonized System (HS) Code 630790 is structured as follows: Chapter 63 (Other made-up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags), Heading 07 (Other made-up articles of textile materials, including dress patterns), and Subheading 90 (Other). Fabric swatches are classified under this code due to their nature as manufactured textile samples distinct from finished garments or raw fabrics, fulfilling the criteria of auxiliary textile articles used primarily for sampling and quality control. The classification aligns with World Customs Organization guidelines and WTO trade facilitation standards, ensuring uniform tariff application and regulatory compliance. Trade considerations for fabric swatches typically involve packaging in moisture-resistant envelopes or sealed plastic pouches to prevent contamination and degradation during shipping. Preservation methods emphasize protection from UV exposure, humidity, and mechanical damage to maintain fabric integrity. Standard shipment units vary but often include sets of swatches organized by fabric type or color. Quality standards adhered to include ISO 105 for colorfastness, ASTM D3775 for fabric density, and OEKO-TEX certifications where applicable. Accurate classification and precise documentation facilitate customs clearance, tariff determination, and adherence to import/export regulations, thereby supporting efficient international trade operations involving fabric swatches under HS Code 630790.
