Table lamp HS Code description
Table lamp harmonized system code
Product Overview A table lamp classified under HS Code 940529 refers to an electrically operated lighting fixture specifically designed for placement on tables, desks, or similar surfaces to provide localized illumination. These lamps typically consist of a base, a supporting structure or stem, and a light source enclosed by a shade or diffuser. Key characteristics include dimensions generally ranging from 30 to 70 centimeters in height, materials such as metal, plastic, or wood for structural components, and electrical components compliant with international safety standards (e.g., IEC 60598). Processing involves precise assembly of electrical wiring, socket fittings, and lampshade fabrication, ensuring durability and consistent light output. Within HS Code 940529, subcategories differentiate lamps by type of light source (incandescent, LED, fluorescent), design (adjustable arm, fixed), and material composition. Commercially, these table lamps are widely used in hospitality sectors (hotels, restaurants), retail environments for product display lighting, and in processing industries requiring task-specific illumination. The product’s value proposition lies in its combination of functional illumination, energy efficiency, and compliance with international electrical safety norms, positioning it competitively in global markets for both consumer and commercial applications. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The HS Code 940529 is structured hierarchically as follows: Chapter 94 (Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings), Heading 9405 (Lamps and lighting fittings including searchlights and spotlights and parts thereof, not elsewhere specified or included), and Subheading 940529 (Other table, desk, bedside or floor-standing electric lamps). This classification is justified by the product’s primary function as an electric lighting fixture intended for use on tables or desks, excluding ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures. Trade considerations emphasize protective packaging, typically involving molded foam inserts and corrugated fiberboard cartons, to safeguard against mechanical damage and moisture during transit. Preservation methods focus on preventing corrosion of metal parts and degradation of electrical components, including desiccant packets and anti-static wraps where applicable. Shipping requirements align with international standards, adhering to IMO and IATA guidelines for electrical equipment. Quality standards mandate conformity with IEC 60598 for electrical safety, CE marking for the European market, and RoHS compliance to restrict hazardous substances. These specifications ensure the product meets WTO trade facilitation requirements and supports efficient customs clearance and classification accuracy in international trade operations.
